Trump blunders on first tweet of Easter morning by claiming ‘at least 138 million’ killed in Sri Lanka blasts
President Donald Trump got off to a rough start on Sunday morning, sending condolences to the people of Sri Lanka over Easter morning blasts that he claimed killed 138 million people.
According to the president, “Heartfelt condolences from the people of the United States to the people of Sri Lanka on the horrible terrorist attacks on churches and hotels that have killed at least 138 million people and badly injured 600 more. We stand ready to help!”
It should be noted that the population of Sri Lanka was estimated in 2017 to be 21.44 million.
Fifteen minutes after the incorrect tweet, Trump wished the world Happy Easter without deleting or correcting the previous tweet — ten minutes later the incorrect tweet disappeared.
