June 12: Senate Passes Bill Recognizing Date As Democracy Day
The Senate on Thursday passed the Public Holiday Act Amendment Bill to recognise June 12 as the new Democracy Day.
This is coming after President Muhammadu Buhariannounced that the date would replace May 29 as the Democracy Day to celebrate the return to the civilian government.
With the declaration of the President, some criticised him for his declaration while others commended him for his decision.
However, the President’ declaration was approved by the Senate after the lawmakers considered the bill seeking to amend the Public Holiday Act.
The bill which has been passed by the House of Representatives will be sent to the President for assent.
I don't think that is necessary compere to what we are facing in this country,
This is justifiable, to remembered MKO Abiola
Ok we are waiting for the ascent that means the President will stay more than eight years in the office if this is done
Very good work!
The change has begun
what a relief at last for the Abiola family
What is the need or what impact does it make in our democracy.
